※ COMPETITION PHASES I + II
Future Cities China is a two-tiered competition. PHASE I is a selection round in which a jury chooses 5 anonymous entries. And then the jury will give these entries advices to supplement their own designs. Selected teams are invited to take part in a one-day design demonstration during PHASE 2 in which juries choose the top three of groups as well.
※ PHASE I - POSTER MAKING
The assignment for PHASE I of the Future Cities China Design competition is to submit a visually clear A1 (841*594) poster with brilliant contents.
This poster should include:
1. Analysis of world-class Cancer Hospital. For example, you can study differences between Cancer Hospital and common hospital like special requirement and needs of cancer patients.
2. Competitors are allowed to use a variety of techniques or means to show the performance of human-class cancer hospital care and environmental protection and so on.
※ The poster needs to include the textual representation (bilingual required) to interpret analytical thinking.
FORMAT
- Digital PDF poster A1 portrait size (84.1 cm height x 59.4 cm wide)
- Minimal resolution 200 dpi (4677 x 6622 pixels), making sure any links are imbedded.
- The project description of maximum 380 words should be in a single text box on the poster, in minimum font size 13.
- The poster should contain project title at the top left corner andminimum font size 18.
- Nowhere may the poster contain any reference to any of the team members identity.

※ JUDGEMENT CRITERIA PHASE I
With equal weight judges will consider the following criteria
- Understanding and analysis of foreign leading cancer hospitals.
- Innovative and engaging spatial and architectural articulation.
- Green ambitions and how they are applied as sustainable solutions.
- Clarity of presentation and a visual quality as an actual poster.
※ PHASE II - DEMONSTRATION
Guests Judges invited by organizer from well-known architectural companies will give feedbacks to the selected 5 teams of their designs in order to help these teams supplement their designs. Soon after, the 5 teams should take part in a one-day design demonstration in PHASE II.
5 teams are chosen mainly according to what have shown in the poster submitted in the first round corresponding to competition’s theme and solving problems and design capacity that have manifest in the problem of self-choosing base.
In the process of design, competitors or participant teams may come across following core problems such as quality of public space, presentation with architectural language, capacity of social integration, environmental influence, innovation of identity, land use, disposing of open space, flow of vehicle and pedestrian, special function requirement and other issues to which should attach importance according to competitors.
In PHASE II, with the help of experts designs should be more excellent in concepts mentioned above.What should pay attention to in PHASE II is to focus on thinking and presentation about works which will tell us howthe designs containing competitors’ ideas and methods operate and function and give answers to land problems. Additionally, different solutions may involve much more public issues such as Ethics, Social Consciousness. In PHASE II, the one-day charrette will be break down into two parts. Morning: Every team present to guests judges who comment their designs according to the final reports. Afternoon: Jury debate and announcement of the winning team, following with Awards Ceremony.
This poster should include:
1. Using what you have got by learning and thinking of leading cancer hospitals’ designs to conceive typical cancer hospital area in your mind from perspectives of architectural design or interior design such as ward areas or garden. Of course, other perspectives are acceptable.
2. Poster should express competitors (or teams) thoughts as sufficiently as possible. Competitors could use different ways to express their ideas; however, all of the ways used by competitors should express authors’intentions of design effectively.
3. Making a creative and inspiring method to solve problem mentioned above. One or more following perspectives should be concluded in your method: green, eco-friendly, idealism, originality, perfection, sustainability, self-giving and so on.

FORMAT
Same as Phase 1.
4.4JUDGEMENT CRITERIA PHASE II
In equal parts judges will consider the following criteria
- A piece of persuasive work which express competitors’ view clearly
- Throughout the design whether it effectively realize original target that set at the beginning.
- Expressions relating to how to cope with place and space and architectural language in the design.
-Feasibility about thinking of “Green Design” and its sustainability.
-Capability that competitors could transfer their design ideas to visual language which could be understood by the public.
