Introduction
CIBE believes in the importance of a rewarding schooling. Despite the undeniable improvements in the provision of basic education over the last 50 year, as a vast and developing country, China faces many challenges in the provision of basic education. Still today more than 30 million children are unable to attend school, and for the rest, education standards can differ severely depending on the region and place. Many rural schools have to put up with dilapidated old buildings and insufficient facilities, lack of materials, and poor teaching standards.

CIBE is dedicated to live up to the values it advocates and thus reach out to the wider community and assist in social development programs. Since 2009, CIBE has been cooperating with two schools in Hebei Province, volunteering, and raising funds to support them in upgrading their buildings and improving their teaching facilities so as to provide the best education opportunities to the local community. The two schools were selected for their close personal ties with CIBE Director, Dr. Liu Baocheng, in appreciation of the education and support he himself received as a young man and in the hopes that he can give something back to his local community.

So far the program has achieved great success and it is hoped that the two schools will be a pilot for future education support programs in poverty stricken areas.

Nanpi High School
Nanpi No.1 High School, formerly “Nanpi Middle School”, is a provincial pilot high school located in Hebei province. A remarkable school, with dedicated teachers, since founding seven thousands students have graduated from its classrooms, among which 1600 students have gone on to enter university.

Due to an expansion in student numbers, today the school faces a shortage of funding and difficulty fully supporting students taking the important ‘GaoKao’ college entrance examinations. With the help of funds raised by CIBE, the school will be able to better support students taking the college entrance exams, as well as attracting additional teachers to the school.

Daguo Primary School
Daguo Primary School was built in 1965 covering an area of 3100 square-meters. After over 45 years in operations, recently the school has fallen into disrepair. The facilities are unfit for purpose, and the physical infrastructure has dangerously deteriorated. The school today has one pre-school class and six taught classes for which there are twelve teachers, most of whom are aging and lacking formal education.

Since 2007, Professor Liu Baocheng and Dr. Rothlin, the director and the secretary-general of CIBE, have visited Daguo primary school on several occasions. The money raised by CIBE goes towards helping poor students, paying for necessary teaching facilities and building refurbishment, as well as rewarding prominent teachers and students. Already the benefits of this support are being felt. Today, the atmosphere at Daguo primary school has improved significantly. Teaching methods and teacher motivation has improved, the facilities are modern and suitable, and the students are more able to , which helped them won the very high social reputation.
