The Green Transformation of SOEs: CNPC as an Example
In the morning of August 6th, we welcomed Ms. Li Wen, culture department senior manager of Kunlun Energy as a speaker on the topic of the current situation and the green transformation of SOEs, taking CNPC as an example.
CNPC, also known as PetroChina, was founded in 1995. As a vital SOE for both the national economy and people’s daily life, CNPC receives both positive and negative comments from all aspects of the society. “We can call it a ‘love-hate relationship’ between CNPC and the society,” said Li. As a driving force of the national economy, CNPC brings about massive economic profits and stables the macro economy. It provides the society with more than 1.6 million job positions confronting the severe unemployment problems. Besides, CNPC has been making breakthroughs in the innovative technology, allowing China to compete in an even field in petrochemical industry with western counterparts. Nevertheless, Chinese citizens hold a sharp attitude on its corruption, administration, and pollution problems, exposing CNPC to the frontier of public opinions.
Faced with these problems, CNPC advocates the green and sustainable development as new approach, carries out social responsibility as an SOE, and tries to convince the public of not taking everything for granted. “CNPC adopts a systematic transitional strategy to achieve green sustainability which includes clean energy development, production process control, and R&D on emission reduction technology,” Li elaborated, “At the same time of benefiting the whole society, CNPC also brings about greater opportunities for the enterprise itself”.
Li’s speech widened the understanding of the campers towards the SOEs in China. In the end, she encouraged them to develop creative and critical thinking and become future entrepreneurs. |
