In the afternoon of July 25th, we firstly paid a visit to Macrolink Building. Following the staff’s guidance, we learnt about the history and achievements of Macrolink. The Group has an extensive scope of business, involving mining, real estate, chemicals, ceramics, wine, finance and others, and all of them being successful. We were shocked and envy about its achievements from the view of college students with little social experiences.

Social responsibility to enterprises is like root to trees. Next, we warmly welcomed Mr Yunhui Yang-chief executive of corporate culture department in Macrolink Group-to give a lecture on “Responsibility — a driving force of the construction of a harmonious society”. He shared with us his decade-long understanding and summary of responsibility from three aspects: 1. Responsibility is the foundation of an orderly society; 2. Responsibility is the guarantee to enterprises’ scientific development; 3. Responsibility is a precondition for personal achievement.

The modern society is full of embarrassments: crisis intensifies with social development; ecology becomes more fragile with scientific development; and life becomes increasingly confusing with material affluence. The once harmonious and stable home earth is collapsing. Resource crisis and environmental pollution result in the imbalance of natural. Population expansion and food crisis lead to the disorder of society. Belief flaw and moral decay gave rise to the loss of spirit. At present, China is in the stage of market economy, of which the essence is competition, with enterprises pursuing the maximal profit. During the lecture, Mr. Yang emphasized the viewpoint of “modernization is rationalization” and stressed that “Cooperation brings in a win-win and complementary situation while competition can only result in a lose-lose situation.” He maintained that responsibility would eventually return, to the national level (political, economic, cultural, social, etc), school level (from utilitarian to commonwealth, value spiritual purification and personality moulding, let the school become the fertile soil for culture), family level (from equality to differences of men and women, the strengthen family sense of responsibility and improve appetency of members), and individual level (from materialism to humanism, restrain inflated desire, “All for one, one for all”). Only when everyone fulfills its own duty, can the society be more harmonious.

Enterprise is liable due to the following reasons. 1. It occupies many social resources; 2. An enterprise is not only an economic organization but also a society; 3. The immediate goal of an enterprise is economic benefits while the ultimate aim is social benefits; 4. This is an inevitable choice for the sustainable development of enterprises. Macrolink Group is regarded as “The guidepost of Chinese private enterprises’ diversification” by media, and is among the ranking list of “China top 500 enterprises” and “China top 100 private enterprises” for 7 running years. The core value of this corporation is “Honesty be our sole, performance first”; the development idea is to let value creators share the value and business achievers share the achievements; the objectives is to build up industry, open up wealth, hold responsibilities and serve the motherland; its development goal is to become a respectable private enterprise.

Yang believes that for individuals, the thinking determines the future. I totally agree with it. Our life encounters with two major choices: employment and marriage. In the future our achievements may be in three aspects: be an official, go into business or do scholarly research. In any case responsibility is of crucial importance. We university students will inevitably obtain resources through currency, society and human resource, and improve social capital via kinship, school fellow relationship, colleague relationship and ethical relationship. It is indispensable for university students to design their lives in an active manner. When seeking talents, planning matters or seeking strategies, we are required to fulfill with the sense of responsibility and mission. Do prior to be human beings, and remember “Benevolence，loyalty，courtesy，wisdom and credit”, to be liable university students as well as the future professionals.
