Prof. Liu Baocheng attended the Bosch Steering Committee Meeting

Date:2012-2-10 14:03:17

On the afternoon of January, 12th, Professor Liu Baocheng, the director of the Center of International Business Ethics(CIBE), was invited to attend the first Bosch Steering Committee Meeting. Bosch Group was founded in 1886, and now has business in some 150 countries. It is a leading global supplier of technology and services in the area of automobile technology, industrial technology, consumer goods and Intelligent Building Technology. Some 283,500 employees generated sales of 47.3billion euros in fiscal 2010.

Robert Bosch Foundation, established in 1964, holds 92% of the capital stock from Robert Bosch GmbH. It has been donating around 1 billion euros in many public welfare projects, such as education, health and international communication, since the outset. It, which set up its first trade office in china in 1909, had some 37.3 billion yuan sales in 2010. Bosch China Charity Center (BCCC), established in April, 2011, gave away over 5000 freshman fellowships from 3 universities, including Xi'an Jiaotong University and Chong'qing University. Meanwhile, it established 2 Hope schools and provided financial aids to over 200 needy students in primary or middle school. The major goal of this meeting is to evaluate the feasibility of the programs in the following year and the center's regulations.

Professor Liu firstly pointed out that we should make clear the definition of the supported programs. Do they belong to charity or philanthropy? The difference lies that the charity is usually to give away the material help while philanthropy emphasizes the ability of generating the self-motivated earning life for the needy. Luckily, we can see that the center is more philanthropy type, hoping to strive to encourage more individuals and organizations to devote into the world of philanthropy to make a bigger difference. In addition, professor Liu delivered his hope of cooperation between CIBE and BCCC to motivate the development of the philanthropy projects to create a better world.
