[Dec. 4-5, 2013] At the invitation of VISA, cosponsor, Prof. Liu, director of CIBE attended the Citi-FT Financial Education Summit 2013 in Hong Kong. The summit aims at promoting financial literacy around the world. The summit drew an audience of around 250 people from various countries and regions.
Prof. Liu spoke at a panelist on Financial Literacy in Rural China centering on the issue of social equity. He voiced for the equal rights of Chinese farmers in a urbanizing China. Access to financial knowledge will definitely contribute to the well being of Chinese farmers. In this process, he emphasized on the thorough understanding over what exactly those farmers need before a program as such can produce the expected result.
Why he appreciate this initiative and effort involved, he also said that powerful financial institutions such as Citibank and VISA can do more in the area of capacity building for Chinese farmers in addition to the popularization of financial literacy. He is impressed by the fact that such an initiative chose to involve a number of local partners that knows more about the specific situation in Chinese countryside and enjoy longstanding competency implementing such programs.
Finally, he expressed willingness on behalf of CIBE to cooperate with this program starting at university level as CIBE is highly experienced in organizing social exposure program for university students. |
