On July 24, 2010, our center invited the Secretary of Association for International Business Ethics in Hong Kong Mr. Andrew So, Ms. Zhiqiong Tao from Matteo Ricci Public Service in Macao, and Professor Dongfeng Chen from Beijing Jiaotong University to take part in a special jaunt out to Nanpi County, Hebei Province, and carry out a one-day Living Values Education and Training seminar for more than seventy teachers from the local Rothlin School and the First Nanpi Middle School.
The so-called Living Values Education is education on thinking, an educational theory and practice inspiring, fostering, and imbuing positive values in students. There is a belief that every person during his or her growing process is able to acquire new survival skills, has the potential to become a caring, moral and peace-loving person, and can realize these values in their actions. There are twelve kinds of basic living values in life: love, responsibility, honesty, respect, solidarity, cooperation, peace, freedom, humility, happiness, tolerance, and simplicity.
Secretary General of Center for International Business Ethics Dr. Rothlin, with school leaders of Rothlin School and the First Nanpi Middle School, facilitated the training programs. This was the first time the teachers were exposed to living values education. Through an interaction with the facilitators, they had a much deeper understanding of value education than before. After the one-day training, the teachers understood educational concepts and the basic approaches and methods of living values education, and can now effectively help students to foster a right outlook on the world, life and values.
