The Third Collegiate Social Responsibility Summer Camp Closing Ceremony
---The Fifth Collegiate “Corporate Social Responsibility Essay Competition” Award Ceremony
On the July 27, 2012, the third Collegiate Social Responsibility Summer Camp closing ceremony and the fifth Collegiate “C orporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Essay Competition” award ceremony were held by the Center for International Business Ethics (CIBE) at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE). The guests presenters were as follows: Mr. Hu Chengsheng, Senior Vice Chairman of the China International Economics Technology Law and Human Resources Association; Ms. Guo Junjia, CSR Officer of Total (China) Investment Co. Ltd; Ms. Liu Nianning, Director of the department of corporate citizenship & governmental cooperation of the greater China region in EMC Computer Systems (China) Co., Ltd; Ms. Ma Libo, Manager of the department of corporate citizenship in EMC Computer Systems (China) Co., Ltd; Mr. Yang Yunhui, Executive Director and Assistant President of Macrolink Group; Mr. Cheng Xu, Manager of the corporate culture department in Macrolink Group; Mr. Yu Zhihong, chief editor of The WTO Economic Tribune; Ms. Julia Feng and Mr. Ramil Cueto, senior trainers of the Executive Learning Center. Media representatives from China News Agency, Sina Public Welfare, Philanthropist Magazine, and China Public Welfare Network, were also present at the ceremonies.
The ceremonies began with Professor Yang Hengda, deputy director and senior academic advisor of CIBE, expressing gratitude for the support of UIBE, enterprises and agencies on behalf of CIBE. He reviewed performances of past essay competitions, and encouraged students to not forget their social responsibilities. He also expressed hope that enterprises and scientific research institutions would further popularize the concept of social responsibility.
The paper titled “Corporate Donation: Charity or Exchange? ---Analysis on the Basis of Annual Loss of Chinese Listed Companies,” written by Li Sihai (School of Management of JiNan University) and Lu Qirui (School of Accounting of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law) won the first prize by the virtue and depth of academic theory. The papers titled “A study of corporate social responsibility from the perspective of consumer decision-making in purchasing” by Yan Jiaju (UIBE) and “Realize the administrative ethics responsibility in an even better fashion” by Zhang Lili (Tianjin Foreign Studies University) were both given the second place prizes. Deng Yunyu (UIBE), Li Gaoyang (Zhejiang University), Zhou Xinming (Perking University), Liu Qian and Huang Hongyin (Tongji University), were awarded the third place prizes. Shandong Normal University received the “Best Organizer Prize.” Su Yezi (Hunan University) was awarded the “Best Perspective Prize.” Lu Qirui, the first-prize winner, delivered an acceptance speech in which she analyzed the status quo and development prospects of corporate social responsibility in China.
Afterwards Mr. Hu Chengsheng, senior vice chairman of the China International Economics Technology Law and Human Resources Association and member of the essay judging committee, commented on the success of the essay competition. He believes that the essay quality was much improved from previous years. He said that participating papers in this competition presented broader horizons, diversified perspectives and more concentrated viewpoints, which fully proves that the concept of corporate social responsibility has been grasped by the college generation.
At last, 37 campers of the third Collegiate Social Responsibility Summer Camp gave presentations in seven groups. The students were from UIBE, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Central China Normal University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Northumbria University in Britain, New York University and others. The seven groups conducted case studies on the topics of “foreign enterprises’ CSR practices with the example of DuPont,” “Analysis of social responsibility of today’s media,” “CSR in Lenovo,” “Sustainable Development analysis of Total’s CSR,” “Case Study of Tasly’s CSR,” “Coping Strategy of existing problems in Chinese enterprises in fulfilling their social responsibilities,” and “Case study of CSR in Bosch.” Presenters showed their understanding of CSR through various forms as lecture, sketches, stage plays and so forth. Their performances were highly appraised by guests and audience members. The students expressed their thanks to CIBE for teaching them about CSR and arranging site visits to Lenovo, Macrolink, Total, Bosch China, and organizations as Luxembourg Embassy in China and Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
Guests were invited to give the “Award for Outstanding Camper” and “Award for the Best Case Analysis.” Ms. Liu Nianning, CSR expert from EMC Computer Systems (China) Co., Ltd, concluded that CIBE was forward looking in its approach to CSR. The summer camp provided a platform for students from around the country to communicate, visit enterprises, and acquire in-depth knowledge of CSR. She hoped that campers would raise their social responsibility awareness and participate in similar activities later. She also said EMC would support CIBE-held activities related with social responsibility. The ceremonies ended with a group photo of all students and guests.
