On the afternoon of July 25, 2012, Ms. Zhao Meng, Director of Corporate Social Contribution Dept. in Canon China Ltd., a well-known imaging products manufacturer, delivered a lecture to all the campers. The theme of her lecture was “Touch & kyosei——Canon’s CSR Practice.” The lecture was held in Room 220 of Ningyuan Building at the University of International Business and Economics.
Ms. Zhao began by giving a brief introduction to Canon’s corporate philosophy of kyosei. Kyosei aspires to a society in which all people, regardless of culture, custom, language or ethnicity, harmoniously live and work together for the common good. In China, Canon makes full use of its sophisticated imaging techniques, and commits to promoting “image welfare.” Canon constantly launches innovative social welfare programs with its concept of “Promoting welfare programs via image, inheriting culture via image and transferring move via image.”
Conservation of the environment
Canon launched the “Image & trace in the wilderness——Canon 2012 wild panda conservation project.” The project aims to provide financial support to wildlife protection in China and provide a field monitoring solution to the protection, rescue and research of wildlife.
Education and Science
In this area Canon launched two programs—— “Help Each other” and “Images of 100 Primary Schools: Light of Hope.” The first project aims to provide hardware facilities for basic education in China, while the second aims to improve the cognitive ability and social development of children. These two programs complete each other and work efficiently together.
Culture inheritance
Promoting the protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage is an important part of Canon “image welfare”. Canon has teamed up with the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, local governments and partners in order to save the endangered cultural heritage.
Humanitarian aid and disaster relief
In the fight against “SARS,” Southeast Asia tsunami disaster relief, Pu'er earthquake aid, the snow disaster in South China, Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan Province, Yushu earthquake in Qinghai Province in 2010, and the Gansu debris flow disaster and other disaster relief, Canon constantly donates money and time to help disaster victims overcome the difficulties. Canon has always strived to fulfill its social responsibilities as a good corporate citizen.
After the introduction the campers recieved a deeper understanding of Canon’s CSR. Ms. Lu Jie, Vice Manager of Brand Communication Department in Canon, answered questions from the campers. As college students the campers said they should be challenged to find the most suitable approaches to fulfilling their social responsibilities. |
