On the morning of July 23, 2012, Ms. Jackie Li, Director of Training Center of Tianjin Talsy Pharmaceutical Group, delivered a wonderful lecture on leadership to all the campers.
Director Li explained the meaning of leadership. Literally, leadership is a combination of series of actions to mobilize everyone to exert efforts towards a common goal. It is also an art to strike a balance among foresight and planning, and communication and coordination.
Leadership means accomplishing a particular task via others. For example, if one person completes 100 assignments all by himself, we can say he is hard-working. However, if the leader delegates 100 tasks to his colleagues the tasks will be accomplished more efficiently and with better quality, while bringing people together for a common purpose. This is called leadership.
Therefore, leaders are not necessarily experts in particular fields, provided they are able to motivate those professionals to work for them. It will be enough that the rich supervise the investment return and the strategic direction of the enterprises. The operation can be left to the wise for they can find appropriate professionals and hard-workers for the operation and administration of the enterprises.
Leadership is of vital importance to enterprises. Only through leadership can companies effectively guide and motivate staff, enhance the cohesive affinity, and improve core competence. The most effective way to present leadership is by leading by example. Personal examples of leadership work better than verbal instructions. Leaders should set an example with their own actions. This is a challenging task. In reality, many leaders do not match their words to their deeds. Such leaders are deceiving themselves as well as others when talking about utilizing and improving their leadership. They are not fit to command others before they command themselves.
Before training staff, leaders should follow and adhere to the “from inside out” model. They should reflect what is in their hearts, establish pure faith, enhance their own capabilities, and keep a firm standpoint. Then they can spread their beliefs and principles, cultivate a positive corporate culture, and guide and promote staff development. A leader without faith can hardly influence and guide his staff or serve as a long-term model.
The students were deeply impressed by the wonderful lecture given by Ms. Jackie Li. They realized that leadership training is of great importance to college students because they are the leaders of the future. The campers received a deeper understanding of leadership through this training in the camp. They said that there is still a lot to learn. It is high time that they devise a plan to improve their leadership as well as other capabilities. Only in this way can they get well prepared to lead the future.
