On August 5th, we visited the headquarter of Macrolink Group and were amazed by this large modern multi-industry group whose business covered chemical, mining, real estate, ceramics, wine, financial investment and so on. Macrolink Group is also a great example of a company that has great corporate culture and practices corporate social responsibility.
Yang Yunhui, the assistant president of the group, gave us an interesting lecture called “Responsibility: the Driving Force of Harmony”. He broke down the definition of responsibility into three parts: responsibility is the basement for orderly running; responsibility guarantees corporate scientific development; responsibility is the prerequisite for individual success.
Mr. Yang raised a thought-provoking question regarding why people’s sense of security and quality was descending while the economy was booming. He said in order to be balanced, people should not solely depend on technology, but philosophy should also be considered since it provides a kind of wisdom rather than beingjust a tool.
Mr. Yang quoted: the authority should supervise public power politically, pursue scientific development economically, select traditional essence culturally, and construct harmonious order socially. Education should return to moralization from industrialization, family should return to sexual division, and individuals should return to human-orientation instead of material orientation.
Then, Mr. Yang shared his own personal experience in fulfilling corporate social responsibility, and gave us many detailed examples. He concluded his lecture expressing his hope for the young generation to study traditional Chinese philosophy, especially the work of Tao TeChing, so that we can understand how to behave ourselves.
This lecture was quite inspiring. I realized that corporate ability, social responsibility and financial return are interlinked. This is in accordance with an ancient saying “Being smart can earn a little; being moral can earn a lot.”I was also attracted by Macrolink Group’s employer benefits. After graduation, I hope I can become an employee there.
