August 6th: Yu Zhihong, the chief editor of China WTO Tribune, gave a lecture with the theme of “Media’s Concern on CSR Issues”.
At first, Mr. Yu introduced “we media,” the concept that everyone can easily be a part of media through internet and social media websites that are prevalent in the internet era. He posed the question: ”since there is such intense competition from new media, can old media, such as newspapers, broadcasting and television programs, last much longer?” Campers then had a heated discussion on this issue. Mr. Yu concluded that old media needs to change if it wants to survive.
Next, Mr. Yu connected media with corporate social responsibility. Using Alcoa and Wall Street Journal as an example, he demonstrated that international media gave great attention to CSR and forced enterprises to fulfill it. In contrast, Chinese media does far from enough of this. Despite the lack of attention to CSR by Chinese media, China WTO Tribune, as Mr. Yu explained, greatly contributes to reporting CSR issues and showing the right way for enterprises and individuals.
Through today’s lecture, we learned more about media and CSR. As a member of “we media”, we should promote the right values and make good examples for others.
