Report on Civil Society in China: 2011, 2014
In 2011, at the invitation of and under the auspices of the European Economic and Social Committee, this report attempts to profile the current state of civil society in China with a particular focus on its Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) or Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). Both the driving and the restraining forces behind the transformation of NGOs are examined at different stages of the country’s socio-economic context subsequent to the establishment of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in 1949. The typologies and functions of NGOs in China are analyzed. A number of areas which require an enabling environment are addressed so that emerging civil society in China can be improved.
The draft and final report has been produced with designing, with which the briefing to the EESC delegation has been organized in May 2011. The report could serve as the independent review of Civil Society development in China, providing references to government departments, research institutions both domestic and international. To CIBE, this project could strengthen our reputation as a research institution among the above stakeholders, and possible pitching for future cooperation.
In 2014, a publication will be published with the support of a Swiss Foundation. |
